Tidsskrift for stofmisbrugerrådet - A Journal for the drug addict council

A complete editorial redesign of the danish journal STOF. All articles are written by experts
promoting development of knowledge and experience, building bridges between science and
practice among people with different backgrounds.

The journal has existed for nearly 10 years, and is published three times every year. STOF
is a non-profitable journal without any ads, and is financed through the ministry of social affairs.
You can subscribe to STOF journal for free aswell.

Since STOF is quite text heavy, the idea was to make the design both interesting and readable,
but at the same time still keeping the overall image serious and firm.

<description>Design and concept inspired by cubism. The primarily goal and concept was to make the design as complex as possible but still simple at the same time. With shadows and sharp patterns we created this cubistic style to the design with a slight reference to the unique appearance of the knifes many angles when it is open and spread to all directions. In contrast to this cubistic look, we incorporated the flat and white Swiss Army logo in our design. You can only see the Swiss Army logo holding the package in a certain angle.

<description>Helvetica Neue - Die Neue Haas Grotesk

Dedicated to one of the most neutral and aestetic type of all time. The idea was to make a booklet expressing the real sense of Helvetica and its history and time. Since Helvetica was developed during the industrial revolution, I decided to make the booklet out of wood to get this heavy concrete-ish feeling.

The type is formerly known as 'Die Neue Haas Grotesk', but was renamed due to the developments of Max Miedinger and Eduard Hoffmann. This duality is of course also incorporated in the design or booklet with two 'faces'. One side describing history and time, the other promoting Helvetica as a type in different shapes and weights.

		<description>1st prize winner in a logo-competition.

MUSKO is short for 'museum' and 'skole' (School), and the idea with the logo
was to create a balance between the two institutions, without using symbols.
The objective was to create a practical and economical logo. The logotype
is a symbol itself with the negative letter 'S' representing the 'south'
and connecting the two institutions.

<description>The pitch was to design a corporate identity for a fusion between the danish (DSB), the norwegian (NSB), and the swedish (SJ) railroads in Scandinavia.

The bookmark is a simpel and clean symbol with a reference to the old wing-wheel, instead the wheel has been exchanged with a train-track. The tracks symbolizes the present and the future where trains will be driving on magnet. Furthermore the symbol is formed so it looks like a throne, which represents the Scandinavian Royal Family.

To avoid any confrontations between the three countries, I have chosen a green (neutral) color representing climate and environment, which is one of their main objectives. Also it is important to let people know it is an experience to travel with train, where comfort and time is highly valued.

<description>The design is simple with an image of a condom, and with a text saying "CONDOM, COCK, CUNT, CUM, CU (see you)". Which basically describes the process before, during, and after having safesex. All the C's is just an extra graphic element. The idea with the condom package design was to give the customer an experience and a small guide/story before having sex.

<description>An exclusive magazine dedicated to the dutch graphic designer, Ootje Oxenaar, and his most famous project: the dutch guilder banknotes.

Ootje Oxenaar was given free reign to work on the design of the notes. He was inspired by the monopoly money as shown in the magazine with seven colourful and characteristic notes. In some of the guilders he has included some "personal" touches, which only can be seen if you look real closely. For instance in the 10 guilder, he has included his own fingerprint from his index finger.

All these codes and secret messages reflects the whole design and format of the magazine as well.

* Ootje Oxenaar is at 79, still teaching in the graphic design department of the Rhode Island School of Design.
